Ancient Greek Style Single-Handled Terracotta Vessel in the Classical Tradition
Description
A terracotta vessel of classical inspiration, featuring a single handle and an elongated form with a narrow neck, flared rim, and rounded body raised on a small foot. The profile is of ancient Mediterranean ceramic types, particularly oil or storage vessels associated with Greek traditions.
The surface is decorated in dark slip against a warm terracotta ground, forming stylized palmette and radiating motifs across the body and shoulder. The decoration shows significant wear, with losses and abrasions throughout, allowing the underlying clay to emerge.
T An old restoration is visible at the neck, with a repaired crack encircling the upper section. The underside is unglazed, with firing irregularities consistent with handmade pottery. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are observed.
