The House of Savoy, one of Europe’s oldest royal dynasties, ruled the Kingdom of Italy from 1861 to 1946. Objects bearing the Savoy shield—identified by its distinctive red cross—were often produced as commemorative or presentation pieces connected with royal events or aristocratic traditions.
Comparable examples of Savoy bonbonnières are preserved in museum collections, including those at the Palazzo Tozzoni Museum in Imola, where examples made of silver, gilded porcelain, and other materials are exhibited.
