Artist Bio:

Lionel Fielding Downes (1900–1972) was an English-born Canadian painter whose career developed within the Quebec and Montreal art milieu, shaped by both academic training and the enduring influence of the Group of Seven. After immigrating to Canada in 1912, he studied in Winnipeg under Frank Johnston in the 1920s and later trained in Chicago and New York, while also painting alongside Arthur Lismer and Frederick Simpson Coburn.
