Description
A refined 19th-century Continental oil on canvas portrait depicting a seated woman elegantly dressed in a deep crimson gown with black lace shawl, dated 1870.
An inscription in the upper left reads “Alex. Joannis” with the date MDCCCLXX (1870).
The work is housed in a period giltwood frame, and the reverse retains an old Parisian label referencing a framing and restoration workshop.
