Antique Chinese Lacquered Wood Box with Gilt Chinoiserie Decoration, 19th c.
Description
Rectangular antique lacquered wood box decorated throughout in black lacquer with finely gilt chinoiserie scenes, floral motifs, and geometric borders. The domed lid, sides, and ends are embellished with cartouches depicting figures in garden and architectural settings, rendered in delicate linework against the dark ground. The top features additional gilt medallions and decorative framing, while the corners and borders are accented with stylized floral sprays.
The box opens via a hinged lid to a fitted interior, retaining its original removable tray and displaying a rich, glossy patina developed through age and use.
