Antique Western Mediterranean Painted Earthenware Geometric Bowl
Description
Painted earthenware bowl with shallow, wide form, wheel-thrown and decorated to the interior in iron-oxide pigment over a pale buff slip. The decoration is organized around a central checkerboard square enclosed within a circular band, from which radiating geometric panels extend, filled with cross-hatching and dotted motifs. The rim is accented with alternating dark-painted segments and multiple concentric bands, creating a strong graphic border.
The exterior is left unglazed.
