Description
Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), the Great Wave off Kanagawa, from the celebrated series Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.
Japanese woodblock print of Hokusai’s iconic composition depicting towering waves threatening fishing boats beneath Mount Fuji. The vertical title cartouche and artist inscription are faithfully rendered within the design.
The print is accompanied by two typed German-language biographical sheets discussing Hokusai and Kitagawa Utamaro. An inscription verso reads “Dear Professor F. Grossmann, ” suggesting prior academic ownership.
