Lot 57:
Christina Grace (20th century) Signed Gestural Abstract Mixed Media Painting, 1996
Description
Gestural abstract composition by Christina Grace, dated 1996. Executed in mixed media on paper, the work is dominated by sweeping, calligraphic strokes in vivid red, punctuated by fluid accents of blue against a pale ground. The composition emphasizes movement, spontaneity, and the physicality of line, creating a dynamic sense of rhythm and scale disproportionate to the sheet itself.

Catalogue Note
The present work aligns visually with late 20th-century gestural abstraction, particularly the calligraphic, emotionally charged mark-making associated with Cy Twombly. The bold, looping red forms and open spatial structure also recall aspects of European lyrical abstraction, notably the work of Georges Mathieu and the expressive linearity of Hans Hartung.
