Photograph of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the celebrated Victorian poet laureate. The photograph, a carte-de-visite taken by James Mudd, was originally published in 1861 by Cundall, Downes & Co. Written on verso, Charles D. Fredricks and Co / Specialite / 587 Broadway, New York. Measuring 4 inches H x 2.5 W.

Alfred Tennyson (1809-1892) was one of the most famous poets of the Victorian era, known for works such as The Lady of Shalott and In Memoriam A.H.H.. 
The image is an original antique photograph, specifically a type known as a carte-de-visite (CDV), popular in the mid-19th century. 
The text at the bottom indicates it was "Entered, according to Act of Congress, in the year 1861, by C. D. Fredricks & Co., in the Clerk’s Office of the United States for the Southern District of New York."
