Rare antique carte-de-visite (CDV) photograph of Sir James Anderson.
Sir James Anderson (1824-1893) was the captain of the SS Great Eastern during the laying of the first successful transatlantic telegraph cable in 1865.
The photograph is an original CDV from the 1860s.
CDVs were popular during the Victorian era and were small, inexpensive studio portraits often exchanged on social calls.
Marked on reverse, Charles D. Fredericks and Co, Specialite, 587 Broadway, New York.
The image shows some signs of age, such as foxing and some trimming at the bottom of the mount.
Measuring 4 inches H x 2.5 W.
