Charles Ernest de Belle, ARCA (Canadian, 1873-1939) Pastel on Board depicting a forest scene with figures seated under trees, titled on verso, Indian Summer, signed and monogram on lower right corner. Framed, behind glass, measures 19 inches H x 15.5 W, board measures 14 inches H x 10 W.
Charles-Ernest de Belle was a Hungarian-born Canadian painter celebrated for his dreamy, ethereal portraits of children and winter landscapes. His style uniquely blended Symbolism with Art Nouveau, creating "downy" compositions that often appeared to float on a soft, meringue-like backdrop.
