Catalogue Note
Portrait miniatures remained an important form of personal representation in France well into the mid-19th century, particularly in provincial and resort regions where itinerant artists served a bourgeois clientele. The present example depicts a young gentleman in contemporary attire of the early Louis-Philippe period, identifiable by his tailored coat, neatly tied cravat, and fashionable hairstyle.
