19th or early 20th C English Neoclassical Painted Desk, The Death of General Wolfe after Benjamin West (1738-1820). Decorated with a finely painted copy of Benjamin West’s famous scene depicting General Wolfe’s last moments on the Plains of Abraham in Quebec City. The death of General James Wolfe occurred on September 13, 1759, during the pivotal Battle of the Plains of Abraham (also known as the Battle of Quebec) in the French and Indian War (Seven Years’ War). Wolfe commanded the British forces against the French army led by the Marquis de Montcalm. Measuring 24 inches deep x 33 W x 30 H.
