Description

Jean-Jacques Besner (Canadian, 1919-1993) Articulated Abstract Aluminum Geometric Sculpture. Measuring 12.5 inches x 18 W x 6.5 deep. Jean-Jacques Besner was a Canadian sculptor, designer, and educator, primarily known for his abstract, Neo-Constructivist work. Born in Vaudreuil, Quebec, in 1919, he died in 1993. His work was heavily influenced by Russian constructivism and the encounter of art and technology. His sculptures were often kinetic (involving movement) and incorporated geometric forms, focusing on the relationship between aesthetics and movement. He created works he called "pivotals, " which were geometric figures cut into pieces and placed on a pivot, allowing the viewer to manipulate them and form a new sculpture.

His sculptures and murals can be seen in public spaces, particularly in Montreal, including a sculptural grille at the Lucien-L’Allier métro station and works at Maison Alcan.
