Description
18th Century Italian Lombardy Neoclassical Marquetry Commode, Circle of Giuseppe Maggiolini (Parabiago, 1738-1814).
Walnut and walnut-burl veneer with fruitwood and boxwood inlay, featuring floral marquetry panels and three mythological roundels including an Apollo-and-swan medallion to the top.
A finely crafted Lombard commode of the late 18th century, displaying the sophisticated geometric veneer work, delicate floral scrolls, and classical pictorial medallions associated with the Milanese Neoclassical school and the celebrated Maggiolini workshop. The top with radiating veneer fields framed by a floral marquetry band; sides with central medallions; three long drawers with crisp scrolling foliate inlay and central rosettes.

Provenance: Castello Ferrari, Pieve del Cairo (Lomellina). The historic residence traditionally associated with Napoleon’s stay during the negotiations preceding the Treaty of Milan (1796).
