Michel Lapensee (Canadian, b. 1947) Oil on canvas, Marais a Black Point, N.B., 1979. Signed and dated lower right Lapensee ’79, inscribed on reverse, Marais a Black Point, N.B. Atmospheric plein-air view of the marshes at Black Point, New Brunswick. Broad, confident brushwork layers cool greens and umbers, with still water reflecting a pale, clouded sky, an accomplished Maritime landscape by Lapensee from the early period of his career. Canvas measures 15.5 × 12 in (39.5 × 30.5 cm), Frame measures 22 × 22 in (56 × 56 cm).
Condition: Clean surface and lively impasto; frame and linen liner consistent with late-1970s presentation; minor handling to frame corners.
