Description
1987 Etching Honni Soit Qui Mal Y Pense, signed and numbered 3/50. Jean-Paul Riopelle was a prominent Canadian artist of the 20th century, known for his abstract works. He was a member of the Automatistes, a group of Quebec artists who signed the Refus global manifesto in 1948, which called for a rejection of figuration in favor of spontaneous and instinctive creative acts. Riopelle’s style is characterized by free experimentation and intuitive exploration, using various techniques throughout his career, including his distinctive mosaic technique with thick impasto brushstrokes. His work often expressed both abstraction and figuration in imaginative ways. Paper measures 22 inches H x 30 W, frame measures 25.5 inches H x 35 W.
