Pierre-Jules Mêne was a prominent animal sculptor in the 19th century, known for his detailed bronze works of horses, dogs, and other animals.
The Norman Mare" was considered by the artist to be one of his major successes. The sculpture is signed "P.J. MÊNE" on the base. Measuring 17“H x 19“L x 7.5"D.
