19th C Continental Grand Tour Bronze, Virgin Mary and Christ Child, C. 1870
Description
The bronze figure of the Holy Mother adorned with a crown and cradling the Christ Child holding a dove while she holds a lily stock in her right hand – signifying purity. Exhibiting a black patina overall and mounted atop a carved fruitwood (possibly olivewood) plinth base. Overall measurements, 18” high x 4.75” wide x 3.75” deep. (height of bronze, 13”).
