Attr. Jean Prouve Potence Swing-arm Wall Lamp

Attributed to Jean Prouve (1901 – 1984) potence swing-arm wall lamp also referred to as a Jib lamp. Attributed to Les Ateliers Jean Prouve in France, ca. 1940-1950. It features a swingable long arm culminating in a single, French Bayonet fixture. It is made of enamelled light blue steel with a single antique socket. It is currently wired for direct connection with European wiring. It measures 58 inches L x 11 H. It shows considerable age and wear to the finish. ?Jean Prouve created the first version of the Potence wall lamp in the 1940s for his own home in Nancy: a simple light bulb affixed to a long, pivoting steel bar, which is held by a steel wire. This functionalist, puristic design was soon produced in various sizes, and incorporated into his architectural designs including the Air France pavilions and headquarters in the 1950s.??Provenance: A private collection, Paris, France.
