Yan Wenliang (China 1893-1988) Landscape Painting
Signed Yan Wenliang (July 20, 1893 – May 1, 1988) painting on board measuring 17.5 x 24 inches unframed depicting a landscape with a waterfall and lush greenery. Yan Wenliang is considered a pioneer of Chinese oil painting and an important educator. The painting reflects his integration of Western oil painting techniques with Chinese landscape aesthetics. Yan was known for his study of colour, perspective an brushwork. His style is associated with impressionism, post-impressionism and fauvism. The work is signed on the right hand side and comes in a vintage frame with significant damage. Provenance: a Los Angeles collection. Measures 25 inches H x 18.5 W.
