Manner of Guido Reni (1575 -1642) Risen Christ
An antique old master oil on canvas depicting The Risen Christ in the style of Guido Reni, where the elegant and monumental figure of the Risen Christ embraces the Cross, as he emerges, victorious but humble, from an ominous darkness. The figure of the risen Christ is inspired by a marble statue of Michelangelo at the Church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva in Rome. Guido Reni was was a foremost Baroque artist who adopted a classical manner typical of the Bolognese school that emerged under the influence of Carracci. He eventually became a prominent figure of the school. Approximately 91 x 61 cm, framed to 109 x 80 cm in a later-added gift wood frame. Provenance: An Austrian Collection.
