Chinese Tang Dynasty Style Earth Spirit Pottery

Large Chinese terracotta spirit guardian or tomb guardian, in the style of the Tang Dynasty (618-906 AD). These sculptures were placed in tombs to ward off evil spirits and protect the deceased. Finely executed in terracotta, it shows faint remnants of coloured paints and presents several repairs including one of the ears. The spirit combines feline and equine features with central antlers. Measuring 25 inches H x 10 inches W and 8 inches deep.
