Antique Russian Orthodox Icon Mother of God, Kazan

Antique Russian Orthodox icon depicting Our Lady of Kazan. It illustrates the Virgin Mary as the protector of Kazan and a palladium of Russia. The icon is a close-up variant of the Hodegetria style, with the child standing. The Icon is painted on thick wood panels, with the back covered by velvet cloth. Appears to be signed in the upper right quadrant, with Cyrillic script on left of pair, painted on wooden panel, old wormwood. 12.25 inches H x 10.5 W. Professional restoration to surface loss.
