17th C hand tinted map titled Het Sas van Gent, depicting the siege of Sas van Gent in 1644 during the Eighty Years War. The map illustrates the strategic layout of the fortified city and the surrounding area, including dikes and military encampments. The text on the map indicates the siege began on July 28, 1644, and the city was captured on September 6, 1644. Sas van Gent is now a town in the Netherlands, near the Belgian border. The map provides a detailed view of the military operations and geographical features relevant to the siege. Map measures 11 inches H x 14.5 W within matting, frame measures 15.5 x 19.5 inches. Provenance: A Dutch family collection that moved to Montreal in the 1920s.
