Philip Peter Roos (1657-1706) Painting Shepherdess
Philipp Peter Roos, called Rosa da Tivoli (Frankfurt 1657 – 1706 Rome) Attributed.??An oil painting on wood measuring 14 x 8 inches unframed, attributed to Philip Peter Roos also known as Rosa da Tivoli and Mercurius born in Frankfort sur le Mein in 1657 and died in Rome in 1706. Mr. Ban Bakergem has glued to the back a page of handwritten notes in Dutch which describe the orgins of the painting. The work depicts a shepherdess on horseback herding livestock in a landscape, in a style typical of the period. She is accompanied by a male shepherd carrying a calf. They both follow a third shepherd on horseback who is leading the way. Provenance: A Dutch family collection, 13.5 x 19 inches framed.
