A Chinese Painting Attributed to Artist Qiu Zhu, depicting a lady holding a lit candle and a girl crouched over a wicker basket holding a folded cloth. Executed in ink and watercolour. There are tears and folds, with traces of humidity. Unsigned, Dimensions of the painting, approx. 99 x 55cm. Total Sheet, approx. 111 x 65 cm. Qiu Zhu was known for painting of women and Buddhist figures, especially Guanine. Her style is described as mysteriously transcendent. The painting depicts a scene that is similar to the catalogued painting titled Lady by the artist. Qiu Zhu was born in the province of Jiangsu and is also known as Qiu Shi (Miss Qiu) and Duling Neishi. She learned her trade from her Father Qiu Ying, a celebrated painter in his own right.
