Antique Japanese Samurai Kabuto and Menpo

Antique Samurai kabuto called Momonari, with a menpo, the helmet is decorated with a very special maedate called Swastika. The swastika was a symbol of prosperity, good fortune and peace and in use in many different cultures of India, China, Africa, native America and Europe for at least 5000 years before it became associated with the Nazi regime. The samurai class, being mostly Buddhist, used this symbol a lot, because in Sanskrit, the word translates to lucky charm. Circa 1800-1850. No rack included. Mask measures 13 inches W x 12 deep x 15 inches H, maedate measures 7 x 5 inches.
