Japanese Samurai Sukesada Long Wakizashi Sword
Antique long wakizashi signed Sukesada and dated Tensho 2 Nen 8 Gatsunichi, a date that refers to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, a period in which Sukesada was particularly active. Blade is 20.1 inches or 51 cm, has some scratches and blemishes expected from a blade that old. The koshirae is beautiful with fuchi and kashira decorated with carved flowers and insects. The saya, often a neglected item, is richly decorated with raden, a Japanese craft and woodwork technique consisting of inserting nacre shell into a carved surface of lacquer or wood. The tip of the saya has carved butterflies, dragonflies and boar eyes hearts. Overall the wakizashi is 29.5 inches or 74.93 cm. Comes with a silk bag. Stand is not included.
