WWII Japanese Imperial Shin Gunto Katana
Original Japanese army officer’s sword in shin Gunto mountings from WWII. The blade and the mountings are in excellent condition. The 26 inches blade has a Hamon (temper line) that is present the length of the blade ending in a maru boshi. Some scratches and blemishes due to use. The tang is signed Kanemune and dated Showa ni jyu non go gatsu, or May 1945. The tsuka, or handle, is silk cord wrapped with cherry blossom menuki. The tsuba is very large (3.3 inches) much older than the sword, has brass inlay and open work, with flowers in gold and boar eyes hearts.
