Rosanjin Kitaoji Signed Shino Ware Chawan Tea Bowl in Box. Fusajiro Kitaoji (Rosanjin) is one of the greatest Japanese artistic geniuses of the 20th century, who twice refused his nomination as a living national treasure. In 1919, he opened an art gallery in Tokyo and founded the Gourmet Club on the second floor of the gallery, where he began his tradition of serving food on his ceramic collection. In 1946, Rosanjin opened a restaurant in Tokyo’s famous Ginza district. The patronage of the American occupying forces helped establish Rosanjin’s international reputation, which led to him having a solo exhibition at the New York City Museum of Modern Art, and later, to exhibitions in Europe, where he even had the opportunity to work with great European artists such as Pablo Picasso and Marc Chagall. 5.5 inches diameter x 3.5 H, box measures 5 inches H x 6.5 x 6.5.
