Rare Japanese Antique Nihonto Sword with Ezo Ainu Koshirae. A gift from Lord Tokugawa. Marked Touto Akama Tsunanobu (August 1820) Sengoku period. Decorated with Gold family crest, Trefoil Aoi mon (Tokugawa mon). Blade measures 13 inches L (excluding Habaki / ferrule). Sword in Saya measures 20.5 inches L. With paperwork. Tokugawa Shogun Family is a family line which topped the whole of the Japanese society including the samurai world practically as the monarch and ruler of Japan over a period of 264 years during the Edo period (from 1603 to 1867). They monopolized the positions of military officers like Konoe no daisho (major captain of the palace guards) and Sei taishogun (generalissimo for the subjugation of barbarians) and exercised a power over feudal lords of Chujo (lieutenant general) or Shosho (minor captain). No stand included.
