18th C Oil Painting Portrait of Three King Sisters
1795 English Oil Painting Portrait of Three King Sisters possibly painted by the artist Thompson. Mr. John King and Mary Rudd of Puttenham, near Guildford, county Surrey had seven daughters, all famous for their beauty. Lucy King (1765 – 1824) was often proposed to by Thompson who became a celebrated painter and was a favorite pupil of the artist John Opie (British, 1761–1807). Lucy King married master mariner, R.W. Eastwick on December 17, 1796. Esther King (1770 – 1805) married H. Col. George Bridges Bellasis in 1796 but died during their banishment to the colony of Australia in 1805. Elizabeth King (1775-1837) first married Capt. Kent, was widowed and then married her sister’s widow, H. Col. George Bridges Bellasis in 1809. Frame measures 32 x 41 inches, canvas measures 25 inches H x 33 W. Inherited by descent to the current owner.
