Impressive long Gendaito katana from the Taisho-Meiji period (1876-1939). The term Gendaito refers to Japanese swords made between 1876-1945. These swords are traditionally made like the very old Koto and Shinto swords, with a forged and folded construction. This blade is 28 inches long, is mumei, or unsigned, offers a great Itame Hada (wood grain pattern) and an active Hamon (edge pattern of cutting edge) all the way up to the kissaki (tip of blade). The mountings are modern samurai type and in excellent condition. The tsuka, or handle, is a light-brown silk-cord wrapped with a gold brass menuki. A modern tsuba and a wooden saya completes this very tight and in near-mint condition katana. Rack not included. Sword measures 38.5 inches L, blade measures 28 inches, sword in scabbard measures 41 inches.
