Antique Georgian Miniature Painting, Portrait of a Man Coronel Bellaris in shagreen case. Written on verso, married to Miss King, aunt of General Lodwick. Bellaris a captain in the Bombay army, was deported to Australia for killing Arthur Mitchell in a duel in India around 1801. He was accompanied to Butony Bay by his wife Esther. After 2 years he was pardoned and returned to India and the army. Case is warped as is painting, some distress to surface. Please see photos. Portrait measures 2 inches unframed, frame measures 2.5 x 2 inches W (closed – opened measures 4 inches).
