Japanese Samurai NANBAN Large Openwork Tsuba

Large high-class old Nanban tsuba. NANBAN pattern offers intricate openwork, inserts of gold and brass. Very costly to produce, reserved to the high-class rich samurais that could afford such luxury. Circa 1800. With box. Tsuba decorated with gilt flowers and a dragon, measures 3.25 inches, box measures 5 x 4.5 x 1.25 inches.
