Antique Japanese Blue Samurai Armour with Hitsu
A superb and very old Japanese samurai armour, all complete with an original storage box called Hitsu. The cuirass is a a Go-mai Do, a five-plates type of cuirass, in wonderful shape for age, it has boar eyes at the tip of the kuzazuri (cuirass skirt) that looks like hearts. The helmet is an 18 plates Ken-Suji kabuto in excellent shape, with embossed eyebrows, with nice Mon (samurai clans) on fukigaeshi ( kabuto’s ears), nice brass tips and wonderful high-grade shikoro. The front decoration, or maedate, is called Oni devil, carved in wood with removable horns. The gold Haidate, or thigh protectors, are remarkable with bear hair. The Kote or arm sleeves, are huge and in terrific shape for age. Sode (side belt protectors) are impressive, both in colors and shape. An overall exceptional really old suit of armour that belongs in every serious collection. Circa 1800. No black base included.
