Description
A late 19th-century French Napoleon III period "Oeil de Boeuf" (Bull’s Eye) or vineyard-style square wall clock. The square, ebonized wood case features an elaborately contoured profile accented with delicate, intricately scrolled brass foliate and floral marquetry inlays inspired by the traditional Boulle style. At the center is a beautifully preserved circular marble dial featuring twelve individual white and blue hand-painted enamel porcelain cartouche hour plots with Roman numerals, set within a heavily chased, decorative gilt-brass bezel mask. Twin winding apertures flank the lower section of the face. Circa 1840 according to accompanying documentation.
Dimensions: 23" H x 23" W x 5" Condition: Some loss to brass string inlay, some loss to brass inlay, movement needs to be examined by a professional, key not included.
