Description

A Pacific Northwest Coast Sea Monster Box by the Whale People of British Columbia. The box is crafted from copper sheets decorated in repousse, featuring a Killer Whale on top of the box and chief’s head on the sides. In Northwest Coast mythology, sea monsters (such as the Wasgo or Sea-Wolf in Haida culture) are powerful beings that often symbolize the intersection of land and sea. The design is inspired by historical bentwood boxes, which were carved from a single piece of cedar and used by high-ranking individuals to store prized possessions.

Accompanied by certificate of authenticity from the Canadian Guild of Crafts Quebec dated 1984.

Dimensions: 10.5 inches W x 6.5 deep x 8 H.
