Thai Gilt Bronze Buddha Sukhothai Style, Bhumisparsa Mudra
Description
A gilt bronze Buddha statue in the Sukhothai style, with long attenuated earlobes, and a serene countenance. The figure is seated in the bhumisparsa mudra, known as the earth-witnessing posture, which signifies the moment of enlightenment. The Buddha sits upon a stylized, multi-tiered pedestal, with a large, flame-like ushnisha (protuberance) on top of the head which represents high spiritual development.
Dimensions: 13 inches H x 8.5 W x 4.5 deep.
