An impressive, moody landscape work attributed to Alexander Nasmyth (1758-1840), a renowned Scottish portrait and landscape painter often called the father of Scottish landscape painting. Depicting a romanticized, atmospheric landscape of Edinburgh Castle and the surrounding fortifications and village with dramatic skies, detailed foreground foliage, and atmospheric perspective that gives depth to the Scottish hills.
