19th C Chinese Export Black Lacquer Tea Caddy with Pewter Inserts
Description
19th-century Chinese export black lacquer tea caddy with paktong or pewter inserts. It features an octagonal form decorated with intricate gilt chinoserie landscapes, pavilions, and figures. The piece is raised on distinct carved gilt-wood paw feet and was manufactured in Canton for the Western market to store precious tea leaves.
Material: Black and gold lacquer (gilt chinoiserie decoration) on a wood frame with chased decoration paktong inserts.
Dimensions: 5.5 inches H x 10 W x 8 deep.
Condition: Some loss to finish, inserts have been dented.
