Description

A classic Elkington hot water jug. Elkington was the primary supplier for the Red Star Line, and they produced a wide range of silver-plated and brass items for their fleet. These jugs were a functional staple of 19th-century ocean travel, primarily used by cabin stewards for hot water washstand service.

The Maker: Elkington & Co. of Birmingham were pioneers in metalware and a premier supplier to major shipping lines, including the Red Star Line and the White Star Line.
Red Star Line Usage: These jugs were used by cabin stewards to bring hot water to passengers for washing. While often silver-plated for luxury cabins, they were also produced in polished brass or copper for durability and use in other areas of the ship.
Design: The conical shape and flared spout were practical for pouring into small washbasins in cramped ship cabins.
Dimensions: 9 inches H x 8 W.
