A Yad, a Russian Jewish silver ritual pointer used by a reader to follow the text of the Torah during a public reading. 


Purpose: The Yad ensures that the sacred parchment of the Torah scroll is not touched by human hands, which helps protect the fragile ink and vellum.
Design: These pointers are typically made of silver and feature a handle with an extension that ends in a small hand with an outstretched index finger.
Features: 875 silver with intricate filigree work, Hebrew inscriptions, and decorative elements like the Star of David as well as a small faceted ruby.
Hallmarks: MC / 1889 84. 
Dimensions: 82.9 grams, 11.5 inches L.
