Description

A finely composed 18th-century needlework sampler dated 1767, executed in silk thread on linen and preserved in a later burlwood-style frame. The upper register features neatly worked alphabets and numerals, while the central field is organized around a wreath enclosing initials and date.

The composition is enriched with a variety of traditional motifs, including crowns, floral sprays, birds, and a leaping deer, all arranged with balanced symmetry. The sampler retains a soft, harmonious palette of greens and muted tones, with areas of gentle fading consistent with its age.
