Jacob Maris (1837-1899), a renowned Dutch painter and a leading figure of the Hague School. He is particularly celebrated for his atmospheric landscapes and cityscapes, often captured under the dramatic, silvery-grey skies typical of the Netherlands. Signed lower right.

Subject: Dutch harbor scene. 
Style: Hague School / Impressionism. Maris was heavily influenced by the French Barbizon School, which emphasized painting directly from nature to capture light and atmosphere.
