Utagawa Kunisada (also known as Toyokuni III). Part of a series titled Mitate Sanjurokkasen no Uchi (Selected from the Thirty-Six Poetical Geniuses).

The print is an example of ukiyo-e, a genre of Japanese art that typically depicts subjects like female beauties, kabuki actors, and landscapes. 
Artist: Utagawa Kunisada (1786-1865), one of the most prolific and commercially successful ukiyo-e designers of the 19th century.
Series: Mitate Sanjurokkasen no Uchi (Selected from the Thirty-Six Poetical Geniuses).
Subject: The Kabuki actor Sawamura Chojuro V (Suketakaya Takasuke III) as Sanemori, set against a mountain landscape, with a poem by Taira no Kanemori.
Dimensions: Paper measures 14 inches H x 10 W, mounted on card, 18 inches H x 14.5 W.
Condition: Some water staining, foxing.
