19th C Victorian Brass Bound Mahogany Campaign Writing Slope
Description
19th-century Victorian mahogany writing slope, also known as a campaign writing box.
It features brass corner pieces, strapping, a matching brass cartouche, and an escutcheon for locking. Interior compartments for pens and two inkwells, writing surface covered with black leather.
These boxes were designed for British Army officers and travelers to be packed and carried on journeys.
Typically, the box opens to form a writing surface with compartments for inkwells and papers.
