Napoleon III Gilt Bronze and Verdi Alpi Marble Inkstand, France C. 1870
Description
The crescent shaped and dished verdi alpi marble base mounted with a pair of lidded gilt bronze inkpots (glass wells absent) decorated with engine turned detail, centred by a marble column terminating to an eagle finial perched atop an orb. The eagle is shown with its head turned to the right and the wings slightly unfurled, its talons clutching Jupiter’s thunderbolts. Dimensions, 6 inches H x 9.5 W x 5 deep.
