Signed H. Simeon Watercolour Architectural Landscape Gate of Justice in Alhambra, Spain
Depicting the Gate of Justice (Puerta de la Justicia), a prominent landmark within the Alhambra palace complex in Granada, Spain. It captures the characteristic red-toned stonework and the ramped path leading up to the massive defensive tower.
Significance: Built in 1348 by Yusuf I, it is the most impressive entrance to the Alhambra.
Symbolism: It is famous for the sculpted hand on the outer arch and a key on the inner arch, representing Islamic tenets.
Signed lower right, H. Simeon, measuring 18 inches H x 12.5 W within matting, frame measures 25 x 19 inches. Fold to top left corner of paper.
